Jon “maddog” Hall é o Presidente Emérito do Conselho do Linux Professional Institute, Co-fundador e Conselheiro Sênior da Caninos Loucos, Diretor Executivo da Linux International e Presidente do Projeto Cauã.

maddog (como prefere ser chamado) é atualmente o Consultor Técnico de Código Aberto da Qsentinel, uma empresa que oferece um ambiente resistente à Computação Quântica para proteger arquivos e comunicações, enquanto protege a soberania dos dados e da computação do usuário.

maddog tem sido programador, projetista de sistemas, administrador de sistemas, gerente de produtos, gerente de marketing técnico, educador universitário, autor, CEO e consultor desde 1969.

Em 1973, programava em linguagem assembly em grandes mainframes IBM (360/370), utilizando o software de Máquina Virtual da IBM. De 1980 a 1983, aprendeu sistemas Unix enquanto trabalhava como administrador de sistemas nos Bell Laboratories.

Em 1986, enquanto trabalhava para a Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), conheceu Richard Stallman, da Free Software Foundation, e abraçou o “Software Livre”.

maddog conheceu Linus Torvalds em 1994 e reconheceu a importância comercial do Linux e do Software, Hardware e Cultura Livre e de Código Aberto. Facilitou a portabilidade do sistema operacional Linux para o processador DEC Alpha de 64 bits.

maddog viajou o mundo palestrando sobre os benefícios do Software Livre e de Código Aberto, e recebeu seu bacharelado em Comércio e Engenharia pela Drexel University (1973), e seu mestrado em Ciência da Computação pelo RPI em Troy, Nova York (1977).

Maddog (as he prefers to be called) is currently the Open Source Technical Advisor for Qsentinel, a company providing a Quantum Computer Resistant environment to protect files and communications while protecting the sovereignty of the user’s data and computing. maddog has been a programmer, systems designer, systems administrator, product manager, technical marketing manager, university educator, author, CEO and consultant since 1969.

In 1973 was programming in assembler language on large IBM (360/370) mainframes, utilizing IBM’s Virtual Machine software. Maddog met Linus Torvalds in 1994 and recognized the commercial importance of Linux and Free and Open Source Software, Hardware and Culture. Facilitated the port of the Linux Operating System to the 64-bit DEC Alpha processor. He enjoys talking to students over pizza and beer….the pizza is optional.

Maddog has traveled the world speaking on the benefits of Free and Open Source Software, and received his BS in Commerce and Engineering from Drexel University (1973), and his MSCS from RPI in Troy, New York (1977).”
